Trigger Point Dry Needling

What is Dry Needling?

TDN is the use of solid filament needles inserted through the skin and into the muscle to release painful myofascial trigger points. Dry needling results in the deepest tissue release allowing for improvements in movement and pain. It is called “Dry” Needling because there is no solution injected as with a hypodermic needle during a flu shot. With Dry Needling, the needle itself and the effects it produces within the tissue is the treatment.

Is Dry Needling the same as Accupuncture?

No, Trigger Point Dry Needling is based on Western medical research and principles, whereas acupuncture is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine. The main similarity is that the same sterile, disposable solid filament needles are used.

LSVT BIG

LSVT BIG trains people with Parkinson disease (PD) to use their body more normally.  People living with PD or other neurological conditions often move differently, with gestures and actions that become smaller and slower. They may have trouble with getting around, getting dressed and with other activities of daily living. LSVT BIG effectively trains improved movements for any activity, whether “small motor” tasks like buttoning a shirt or “large motor” tasks like getting up from sofa or chair or maintaining balance while walking. The treatment improves walking, self-care and other tasks by helping people “recalibrate” how they perceive their movements with what others actually see. It also teaches them how and when to apply extra effort to produce bigger motions – more like the movements of everyone around them.

We are fortunate that Dr. Shenae LaCroix is a certified provider.  Find out more about LSVT BIG here.

Sports Medicine

Sports medicine healthcare providers have special training to restore function to injured patients so they can get moving again as soon as possible. They are experts in preventing illness and injury in active people. Sports medicine healthcare providers do work with professional athletes. But they also treat children and teens involved in sports and adults who exercise for personal fitness. Plus, they treat people who have physically demanding jobs, like construction workers.

Sports medicine is not a medical specialty in itself. Most sports medicine healthcare providers are certified in internal medicine, emergency medicine, family medicine, or another specialty.

Reasons to see a sports medicine specialist

Your child may see a sports medicine healthcare provider for an injury such as:

  • Ankle sprain
  • Fracture
  • Knee and shoulder injury
  • Tendonitis
  • Heat illness
  • Concussion
  • Cartilage injury

Sports medicine healthcare providers can also give advice on nutrition, supplements, exercise, and injury prevention.

Deep Tissue Laser Therapy

Laser therapy works by energizing the damaged cells and increasing circulation to the painful area. This produces a cascade of healing responses in your body, reducing inflammation, thereby reducing or even eliminating your pain. Treatments take just a few minutes; however, the therapeutic effect continues to soothe and heal long after you leave the office.

Conditions Treated with Laser Therapy

  • Soft tissue injuries, ligaments, strains, sprains
  • Bone Fractures
  • Muscle and tendon tears
  • Swelling
  • Acute and Chronic pain conditions (lower back & muscles, neuralgia, fibromyalgia or muscle tension / spasms)
  • Inflamatory conditions (tendonitis, bursitis)
  • Plantar fascitis, heel spurs, Achilles tendonitis

What you can expect with Laser Therapy

  • Heal faster after surgery or any traumatic injury.
  • Reduces pain and improves range of motion without the use of drugs or undesirable side effects.
  • Application of laser light increases blood flow to traumatized areas.  This improves oxygenation and helps remove toxins.
  • Lasers have large power ranges and treatments can be customized for each situation.

There is no discomfort during treatment, simply a deep, gentle warmth as your body’s cells respond to the light. Some patients report actually enjoying the experience. Treatments typically last 5-10 minutes depending on the size and acuteness of the condition being treated. There are no known side effects; it is a noninvasive therapy with long lasting results.
